Avian Conservation Uganda proudly invites conservationists, birdwatchers, nature lovers, students, researchers, tourism professionals, corporate organizations, schools, families, and members of the public from Uganda and around the world to participate in the RUN 4 BIRDS 2026, a unique conservation event dedicated to protecting Uganda’s iconic Grey Crowned Crane.
The Grey Crowned Crane, Uganda’s national bird, is an internationally recognized symbol of our country’s natural heritage. Yet this magnificent species continues to face growing threats from wetland degradation, habitat loss, illegal capture, collisions with infrastructure, and increasing human pressure. Conservation organizations across the region continue to emphasize the urgent need for coordinated action to secure its future. (Endangered Wildlife Trust)
This year’s inspiring theme, “EVERY STEP SAVES A CRANE,” reminds us that every individual action—no matter how small—can contribute to protecting birds and the habitats they depend on. By taking part in the run, participants will help raise awareness about the importance of conserving wetlands, safeguarding biodiversity, and inspiring communities to become active stewards of nature.
