A Young Meyer’s Parrot Given a Second Chance.
Today was a powerful reminder that every life matters, no matter how small. A young Meyer’s parrot was successfully rescued after falling from its mother’s nest in a tree at the home of Mr. Hanif in Mutungo, Nakawa Division.
The emergency alert was raised by Mariam, whose quick action made all the difference. Immediately, the Avian Conservation Uganda rescue team of Muhumuza Christopher and Godfrey Elasmus responded without hesitation. They quickly moved to the scene, determined to save the young bird’s life.
Through their dedication and teamwork, the parrot was safely collected and taken to Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC), where it will undergo rehabilitation, receive professional care, and be monitored until it is strong enough to return to the wild, where it belongs.
This rescue is more than saving one bird it is a message to all communities across Uganda. Birds are an important part of our environment. They spread seeds, help control pests, and bring beauty and life to our surroundings. When birds are safe, nature is healthy.
We call upon communities everywhere to be more active in protecting nests, preserving trees, reporting injured wildlife, and supporting conservation efforts. Together, we can make Uganda a safer and better place for birds to survive and thrive.
We would also like to make a sincere call for stronger collaboration and support from Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) to work hand in hand with community conservation groups and rescue teams. Through partnerships, training, rescue response, and public awareness, more wildlife lives can be saved and protected for future generations.
