Uganda’s Master Nest Builder
The Village Weaver (Ploceus cucullatus) is one of the most familiar and widespread weaver birds in Africa. Renowned for its bright yellow plumage, black facial mask during the breeding season, and remarkable nest-building skills, it is often seen in noisy colonies around villages, wetlands, and farmlands. The species belongs to the Ploceidae family.
Conservation Importance
The Village Weaver plays an important ecological role through seed dispersal and insect control. Its spectacular colonies of woven nests are among the most recognizable sights in Uganda’s birdlife and provide an excellent introduction to the fascinating world of African weavers.
